Manila – A train of the Metro Rail Transit ( MRT) derailed and slammed into the concrete barrier of the MRT station in Pasay City in the Philippine capital region of Metro Manila on Wednesday afternoon.

Local radio station DZMM reported that several injured passengers have been rushed to nearby hospitals.

Prior to the accident, passengers interviewed by the radio station said the train was already experiencing brake problems.

The MRT traverses EDSA, the busiest highway in the capital region, and is considered as a major mode of transportation for many commuters in Metro Manila. Hundreds of thousands of passengers ride the MRT daily. Source: Xinhua
