Chiang Mai Fest 2014: A celebration of the world’s cultural and musical heritage

Chiang Mai – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) in cooperation with Earth Wind & Fire Co., Ltd, Promenada Resort Mall, the Chiang Mai provincial authorities and various travel and tourism organisations have joined forces to host the Chiang Mai Fest 2014.

This is the 4th year that the international music and cultural festival has been staged, and performers and music fans are coming from all over the world to join the fun. The weekend event will be held on 1-2 March, 2014, at the Promenada Resort Mall in Chiang Mai.

Over the four years it has been held, the Chiang Mai festival has established itself as a much loved and anticipated event in the city’s cultural calendar. It brings together under one roof musicians and performers from Europe, America, Africa and Asia.

The artists at the festival have all been selected for their record for putting on impressive and entertaining performances. The event is a great opportunity for music lovers to come and enjoy the sort of high quality acts that do not often perform in the kingdom.

The range of music and performers is impressive, ranging from opera to hard rock, blues, kwela street music and maskandi music and sakkie sakkie dance from Africa. Festival goers will also be able to enjoy various Indie dance and rock bands at the 2-day event.

Among the leading international artists coming to perform this year are Mathew Mole, the electronic/folk-inspired musician from South Africa; IYEOKA a poet, songwriter, pharmacist, and ‘healing drummer’ from the USA, Thomas Kiessling from Germany, Take Two from Singapore and Akasha from Malaysia.

TAT Governor Thawatchai Arunyik: “The Chiang Mai Fest is the only event of its kind in Thailand to provide opportunities for artists and music lovers to enjoy a celebration of international culture and music. It allows for great cross-cultural exchange and can help broaden the minds and tastes of all who attend.

“This is why the festival is building a name for itself not just among music lovers in Thailand, but also around the world because each year the audience takes away something special and discovers something new. And the performers are always impressed by the fun and creative atmosphere and the appreciative audience.’’

The plush environs of the Promenada Resort Mall offer the perfect venue for the festival. Visitors will not only be able to enjoy world-class music, but also fine cuisine that has been provided at very affordable prices by leading hotels and resorts in Chiang Mai. The blend of good food and great music will ensure that everyone attending will have a fabulous and memorable time.

The musical programme will start at 17:00 hrs. and finish about 23:30 hrs. on both days. Admission is free. For more information about the event, visit: www.chiangmaifest.com
