U.S. president’s envoy visits Vietnam, TPP discussed

Hanoi – Evan Medeiros, special assistant to U.S. President Barack Obama, paid a visit to Vietnam and talked with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh over various issues including TPP here on Monday.

During the meeting, the envoy conveyed Obama’s message on his visit to the country on the occasion of the anniversary of comprehensive partnership between the two countries.

The Vietnamese government said on its website that Evan Medeiros’ visit is to discuss measures to implement and strengthen the bilateral comprehensive partnership for peace, stability, cooperation and development in Asia-Pacific and the world.

The two sides also exchanged views over the cooperation in regional and international issues of common concern, including negotiations of Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).

The Vietnamese official, for his part, welcomed the visit by Evan Medeiros as representative of the U.S. president, and expressed satisfaction over the improvement in bilateral cooperation in a range of areas, including politics, economy, education, security and defense. Source: Xinhua
