Singapore Airlines in distress: one dead, 71 injured

BANGKOK/SINGAPORE – Severe turbulence occurred today on a Singapore Airlines flight from London to Singapore, resulting in one death and at least 71 other injuries. The Boeing 777-300ER was therefore diverted to Bangkok. On board flight SQ321 were 211 passengers and 18 crew members.

In an initial statement, Singapore Airlines announced that 30 passengers were injured and are being treated in hospitals, while other travelers were given outpatient care at the airport.

The deceased person was a 73-year-old Briton, identified as Geoff Kitchen. Initial reports suggest he suffered a heart attack.
