Chiang Mai – Officials in Chiang Khong District of Chiang Rai Province are preparing the launch of the 4th Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge on December 11.
Chiang Rai Governor Phongsak Wangsamoe disclosed that the construction of the 4th Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge is almost complete and preparations are made for the inauguration ceremony on December 11.
After similar Thai-Lao Friendship Bridges in Nong Khai, Nakhon Phanom and Mukdahan, the newest land link to Laos will act as a passageway into and from China via the northern part of Laos. After the launch, more tourists are expected to visit Thailand. At the same time, there will be an increase in the amount of trade and transport.
Currently, work is still underway to establish the immigration and customs points at the bridge, added Phongsak Chiang Mai .
Locals residents in Chiang Rai Province are expected to generate more income from selling locally-made products. The governor emphasized that Mae Sai, Chiang Saen and now Chiang Khong are singled out to be established as special economic zones. AT/Reinhard Hohler
