ASEAN and China: New Paths in Science and Technology

GUANGXI – In a significant step towards enhanced regional collaboration, the ASEAN Secretariat and the Committee of Science, Technology and Innovation (COSTI) convened in Guangxi, China for the 12th Meeting of the ASEAN-China Joint Science, Technology and Innovation Committee (ACJSTIC-12). The event, which took place last week, was presided over by Chen Jiachang, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) of China, with the presence of ASEAN COSTI Chair Dr Hul Seingheng.

The meeting marked a milestone in ASEAN-China relations, as it not only reviewed ongoing joint initiatives but also introduced new ventures poised to deepen the cooperative ties between the two regions. Among the array of topics discussed, the ASEAN-China Joint Research Projects stood out as a beacon of collaborative potential. These projects bring together researchers from institutes across China and the ASEAN Member States, focusing on critical areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Clean Energy, and Electric Vehicles.

The dialogue at ACJSTIC-12 highlighted the mutual benefits of such partnerships, emphasizing the importance of shared knowledge and resources in tackling pressing global issues. The second edition of these joint research projects promises to expand the scope of cooperation, offering a more comprehensive framework for scientific exchange and innovation.
