U.S. business executives eye investment potential in Cambodia

Phnom Penh – More than a dozen of American company representatives are visiting Cambodia to look into investment opportunities, a Cambodian spokesman said on Thursday.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen met with the delegation led by Kathy Santillo, regional managing director of the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council.

According to Eang Sophalleth, Kathy told Hun Sen that the delegation’s visit was aimed to better understand the Cambodian government’s priorities and to explore investment chances in both private and public sectors.

She said the U.S. companies had also eyed possibilities to invest in small and medium enterprises in Cambodia and other ASEAN countries.

For his part, Hun Sen said Cambodia’s main priorities are human resources development, agricultural development through building irrigation system, infrastructures and telecommunication, and energy.

He said the country is also encouraging investment in processing industries.

The U.S.-ASEAN Business Council represents more than 100 major U.S. corporations across Southeast Asia. Its goal is to broaden and deepen the council’s relationships with the Southeast Asian nations.
