Thailand Achieves Milestone of 35 Mio Visitors in 2024

BANGKOK – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has proudly announced that the country has surpassed its target of 35 million international visitors in 2024, generating over 1.8 trillion Baht in tourism revenue. This landmark achievement not only marks a significant rebound for Thailand’s tourism sector but also sets the stage for an even more remarkable 2025, as the nation prepares for the ‘Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year.’

Thailand’s Tourism Recovery and Future Prospects

With over 35 million international visitors in 2024, Thailand has exceeded its tourism goals, showcasing the effectiveness of strategic government policies designed to boost travel to the country. This includes measures such as visa exemptions for 93 countries and the simplification of entry processes at key border crossings. The success of these policies was complemented by the expansion of international flight routes, which boosted total airline seat capacity into the country by 26% year-on-year.

Looking ahead, Thailand is set to welcome between 36 and 39 million visitors in 2025, generating an estimated 1.98–2.23 trillion Baht in tourism revenue. The upcoming year will see Thailand continue to build on its reputation as a premier global tourism hub, with a focus on offering exceptional experiences and promoting sustainable growth in the sector.

Strategic Government Initiatives Fuel Growth

TAT Governor Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool credited the record number of visitors to the government’s proactive measures, such as the extension of visa exemptions and the removal of the TM.6 immigration form. These initiatives, along with the expansion of flight services and connectivity, have made it easier and more convenient for travelers to visit Thailand.

During the high season of 2024, airlines from around the world resumed and introduced new routes to Thailand, increasing the total seat capacity to 47 million—a 26% increase from 2023. This rise in flight offerings played a crucial role in the tourism sector’s recovery.

Highlighting Thailand’s Unique Appeal Through Events and Connectivity

High-profile events and cultural festivals, including the Amazing Thailand Countdown 2024 and the Maha Songkran World Water Festival, have attracted global attention and amplified Thailand’s appeal. Additionally, tourism has been boosted by filming locations from popular TV shows and music videos, drawing international fans to explore these iconic sites.

Enhanced Flight Connectivity for the High Season

Thailand’s growing network of flight routes from both short-haul and long-haul regions contributed to a smooth and accessible travel experience during peak periods. Notable routes include new direct flights from cities in Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Europe, and North America, further cementing Thailand’s status as a global tourism destination.

Looking to the Future: ‘Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025’

As Thailand prepares for 2025, the focus will be on hosting world-class events, showcasing Thai cultural experiences, and continuing to enhance travel convenience for international visitors. TAT will also collaborate with global influencers to expand Thailand’s appeal across diverse markets.
