Indonesia issues new regulation for domestic travel

JAKARTA – On March 26, the Indonesian COVID-19 Task Force issued Circular No. 12/ 2021 on domestic travelling during the COVID-19 pandemic. The circular was issued to clarify the COVID-19 testing requirements for domestic travelling, specifically which tests are needed to be able to travel and what are required to travel to specific areas. In regard to this latest circular, the use of the GeNose C19 test has been expanded to cover all modes of public transportation.

“The use of domestically-made breath-based COVID-19 early screening test GeNose C19 has been expanded to cover all modes of public transportation as an early health screening alternative for domestic travelers during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Doni Monardo, Head of COVID-19 handling Task Force, as quoted from the government’s official website.

The Circular further extends the domestic travel provisions imposed by previous circulars, such as the requirement to wear health masks, practice social distancing and to avoid crowds. Other extended provisions that have been further amende include, but are not limited to:

  • Individuals travelling by air must possess a negative RT-PCR test result that is valid for 3×24 hours from the time of departure, or a negative antigen test result that is valid for 2×24 hours from the time of departure, or a negative GeNose C19 test result taken at the airport prior to departure.
  • Individuals travelling by sea must possess a negative RT-PCR test result that is valid for 3×24 hours from the time of departure, or a negative antigen test result that is valid for 3×24 hours from the time of departure, or a negative GeNose C19 test result taken at the seaport prior to departure.
  • Individuals on a routine travel from one area to another within the island of Java by sea are not required to have negative COVID-19 test results but can be randomly tested by the corresponding regional COVID-19 task force.
  • Individuals travelling by train must possess a negative RT-PCR test result that is valid for 3×24 hours from the time of departure, or a negative antigen test result that is valid for 3×24 hours from the time of departure, or a negative GeNose C19 test result taken at the train station prior to departure.
  • All travels to the island of Bali, whether by air, sea or train, must possess a negative RT-PCR test result that is valid for 2×24 hours from the time of departure, or a negative antigen test result that is valid for 2×24 hours from the time of departure, or a negative GeNose C19 test result taken at the airport, seaport or train station prior to departure.
