BEIJING – Hongqi, the luxury subsidiary of China’s FAW Group, has unveiled the world’s first electrically powered convertible at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show: the Hongqi EH7 Cabriolet. This new variant of the EH7 sedan adds a touch of open-air driving pleasure to the lineup after the EH7 was originally introduced without this option on March 20.
The Hongqi EH7 Cabriolet retains the overall design of the standard EH7, including the distinctive closed grille appearance and the unmistakable combination of 7-shaped headlights that belong to the latest design language of the Hongqi brand. The vehicle’s dimensions measure 4980/1915/1490 mm with a wheelbase of 3000 mm.
The most striking aspect of the convertible version is the effect when the roof is open. With unique body color options, the EH7 Cabriolet stands out from the crowd. Inside the vehicle, the focus is on noticeable quality improvements and a harmonious interior color scheme. The EH7 Cabriolet features a 6-inch + 15.5-inch curved dual-screen display as well as an Augmented Reality Head-Up Display (AR-HUD) system powered by the impressive Snapdragon 8155 chipset.
The interior design follows a minimalist approach, with few physical buttons visible. The steering wheel itself has a distinctive and sporty appearance reminiscent of a gaming controller. Additionally, the seats feature an integrated design, while the fresh interior color schemes overall convey a futuristic and dynamic feel.
The EH7 Cabriolet is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The ternary lithium battery packs, supplied by CATL, power the vehicle. The impressive acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h is a swift 3.5 seconds. It should be noted that the EH7 Cabriolet represents an upgrade to the existing EH7 lineup, which currently includes five models priced between 229,800 and 309,800 yuan (approximately $31,900 to $43,000 USD). With the introduction of the convertible variant, prices are expected to increase accordingly.
Looking ahead, Hongqi plans to further expand its new energy sub-brand with future offerings, including long-range battery swaps and fast-charging variants capable of reaching up to 800 km. With the EH7 Cabriolet, Hongqi continues its efforts to establish a presence in the luxury automobile market. (zai)
