MANILA/THE HAGUE – Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has arrived in the Netherlands today, having been taken into custody by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague. He was arrested in Manila on March 11, 2025, upon his arrival at Ninoy Aquino International Airport, following his return from Hong Kong. Subsequently, he was transported to the Netherlands to face charges of crimes against humanity related to his administration’s anti-drug campaign.
Duterte was received upon his arrival by plane by ICC officials and underwent standard medical examinations as part of the court’s procedures. His arrest is marking a significant development in the pursuit of accountability for alleged human rights violations during his tenure. (zai)
