BEIJING – In a move aimed at bolstering international ties and tourism, China has announced the extension of its visa-free entry policy for citizens of 12 countries, including France, until the end of 2025.
Initially introduced in December 2023, the visa-free policy was limited to travelers from six nations. By March 2024, the program expanded to include Switzerland, Luxembourg, Austria, and three additional countries. Designed for short-term visits of up to 15 days, the policy was originally set to expire in November 2024. However, the Chinese government has extended it to facilitate greater cultural and economic exchanges.
“This initiative underscores China’s commitment to strengthening people-to-people connections and fostering cooperation with our international partners,” Xi stated during his last visit to Paris.
The extension offers convenience to tourists and business travelers while highlighting China’s efforts to stimulate its post-pandemic recovery by encouraging foreign visits. Further announcements about possible future adjustments to the program are anticipated.
This step represents a significant boost for mutual exchanges and signals China’s willingness to remain open and accessible to global travelers. (zai)
