FRANKFURT – The Lufthansa Group has again concluded 2024 as the leading carrier at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER). Around 30 percent of all connections to and from the capital’s airport were offered by the Group’s airlines (Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings, SunExpress). This places the Lufthansa Group as the clear market leader at BER. The second-largest provider at BER operated around 17 percent of flights.
In total, the Lufthansa Group airlines carried 6.4 million passengers last year. On average, one of the Group’s aircraft took off from BER every 15 minutes. The Group’s six airlines present at BER offer up to 500 direct flights per week to almost 60 destinations. Eurowings alone connects BER with around 45 destinations across Europe, North Africa, and the Gulf region. Travelers can reach more than 290 destinations worldwide from Berlin via the five Lufthansa Group hubs.
While other airlines have announced plans to reduce their services at BER in 2025, the Lufthansa Group continues to grow at the airport. The Group subsidiary SWISS has been operating daily non-stop flights to Geneva and back since October. Eurowings will increase its seat capacity by 12 percent. With new destinations such as Bilbao, Corfu, Faro, and Newcastle, Germany’s largest leisure airline is offering Berlin further attractive holiday destinations in the summer.
Lufthansa and the German capital share a long history. The airline was founded in Berlin in 1926. Today, Lufthansa flies not only to and from Berlin. The Group is represented here – as it is otherwise only in Frankfurt – with all important business segments. Around 2000 Lufthansa Group employees live and work in Berlin. – Photo: Lufthansa
