Bangkok – Thailand’s vibrant capital Bangkok has been once again voted as one of the “World’s Top 20 Destinations to Visit” according to voters in the “2015 Travellers’ Favourites Awards” run by renowned travel website, gogobot.com.
The Awards, now in their third year, are aimed at celebrating the best places gogobot members have enjoyed as they travelled the world, and categories include best hotels, restaurants, beaches and tours. The best destinations are the foremost category and Bangkok claimed the 12th spot in the top 20 which included famous cities; such as, New York, London and Las Vegas.
The website praised the Thai capital for its vibrant streets with their characteristic “cacophony of sounds” and world-famous street goods. Bangkok’s value for money and easy-going culture also made it stand out.
TAT Governor, Mr. Thawatchai Arunyik said, “It’s great that travellers from around the world appreciate the special qualities that make Bangkok an exotic and exciting destination. The city offers all the comforts and conveniences of any world metropolis, but there are elements that make it uniquely Thai – our peaceful temples, amazing food to be enjoyed everywhere, from street-sides to five-star rooftops, the rich history, modern entertainment and the ever-present smiles on the faces of the people. This very Thai blend makes the city so memorable.”
This was the second time Bangkok was voted a Top Destination by gogbot members. Last year, the city took 10th place in the international rankings with the architecture, bars and temples being singled out for praise.
It is not just Bangkok’s attractions getting international attention. Its Wi-Fi capabilities have also impressed observers. The city recently ranked 22nd from 50 internationally on the website hotelwifitest.com, for the quality of Wi-Fi services offered in hotels.
Bangkok received scores of 52.5% for quality and 73.1% for free Wi-Fi offered. Hotels offering download speeds of at least 3 MB and an upload speed of 500 KB were voted as adequate. Free Wi-Fi was judged by the ratio of hotels that offered free in-room Wi-Fi. In this regard, Bangkok rated much higher than cities including Dubai, New York, LA and Paris.
