Vietnam: Tourism arrivals increased by 20 percent

Ha Long City – Vietnam presents itself this year as host country for the annual ASEAN Tourism Forum 2019 (14-18 January) at its world-renowned tourism location Ha Long Bay.

At the conference, Vietnam once again pointed out, that the tourism industry is considered as a key economic factor. In this context, the government implemented in 2018 a number of important policies from visa facilitation to the improvement of the tourism environment to further develop the industry according to modern international standards.

Vietnam positioned itself as one of the most alluring destinations in Southeast Asia with a total of 15,5 million travelers, a 20 % increase in arrivals to 2018.

Vietnam has seen the greatest growth in tourism arrivals from East Asia: nearly 5 million from China with a 23,9 % increase, 3,5 million from the Republic of Korea (+30,5 %), 837.000 from Japan (+3,6 %).

Tourist numbers from the European market also increased: 298.000 from the U.K. (+ 5,1 %), 280.00 from France (+9,5 %) and 214.000 from Germany (+7,1 %). 606.000 tourists came from Russia (+5,7 %).

For Vietnam 2018 was a year with a great number of tourism events. Vietnam Tourism received many international awards: “The Asia Leasing Tourism Destination 2018” by the World Travel Awards, and the “Asia’s Best Golf Destination” by World Golf Awards.

The first Tourism Summit was organized on December 5-6 in Hanoi and the 15th million visitor to Vietnam in 2018 was welcomed on December 18th.
