Moderate quake strikes off eastern Indonesia

Jakarta – An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale jolted Maluku in eastern part of the country on Sunday, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said here.

The quake struck at 09:38 a.m. Jakarta time (0238 GMT) with epicenter at 119 km northwest Maluku Barat Daya and with the depth at 483 km under sea bed, an official of the agency told Xinhua by phone.

Indonesia is prone to quake as it lies on a vulnerable quake- hit zone, the so called “the Pacific Ring of Fire.” Source: Xinhua
