Chartered ships bring over 3,500 Chinese back home

Beijing/Hanoi – China has called off some of its planned exchanges with Vietnam and dispatched aircraft and ships to pick up injured and frightened Chinese nationals suffering from last week’s attacks against Chinese nationals living and working in Vietnam.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said 307 injured Chinese nationals were returned home by chartered planes, while 3,553 others were evacuated by four Chinese ships, and have arrived in the southern city of Haikou.

Hong Lei urged Vietnam to ensure the safety of all Chinese people in Vietnam, compensate the victims, and bring the perpetrators of the riots to justice. Source: Xinhua
